Now, since you get it to your home, you should know how to take care of it and help grow it well.

How to Take Care of San Pedro Cactus?

  • Sunlight: Although seedlings may suffer sun burn if you keep them in direct sunlight, mature San Pedro grows pretty well in full sun. However, in hot summer, the cacti should be kept in shed yet the place should be warm. Plenty of sunlight helps grow the San Pedro cacti quite well.
  • Watering: In winters, your San Pedro will require less watering sessions as they get dormant in winders but in Summers,  you have to water more often. However, between consecutive watering sessions make sure that the soil is dried up. Because if you keep watering so much, the roots may rot.  Watering San Pedro once a week is fair enough.
  • Soil: While potting the San pedro, make sure to use the porous soil which drains easily and also it should be slightly acidic. It needs porous soil so that water doesn’t get logged there and the roots won’t rot. If needed use highly diluted and mild fertilizers to grow and take care of your San Pedro cactus.
  • Maintenance: Cacti need very less or no maintenance at all. However,  If you really want to enhance the growth of new stems, trim the hedges and remove the withered parts 2-3 times a month. Also, sometimes if your san pedro look like unruly, you can trim as per your needs to make it look controlled and well managed.

Important Note: Since San Pedro contains Mescaline which is substance with hallucinogenic affect, it must be kept away from the kids and pets.

Legalities of San Pedro in Various Countries

Many countries such as India, Denmark, France, Germany, Brazil Italy, Switzerland etc. banned Mescaline. Thus, cultivation/production/possession/sale/purchase/transport and storage of San Pedro Cactus is banned too because San Pedro contains Mescaline which is a substance that when eaten gives hallucinating effect.

Countries like the U.K., some parts of Australia, Canada, Thailand, etc. San Pedro Cactus can be grown for ornamental purposes  in UK, and some parts of Canada, Thailand, Canada etc. But, using San Pedro Cactus for extracting Mescaline is completely banned in these countries. Extracting mescaline from this cactus plant is illegal and can land you in jail.  So, make sure you don’t do any such nasty stuff.

Conclusion

If you prefer not visiting any shop, just go to any online website and order the San Pedro seeds or seedlings, and grow it indoor in the pot.
